so it's 230 in the morning. li's dns is all messed up, and so for the most part we're not visible from most of the outside world. with any luck internic will have the host change info into today's update, and discovernet will do the reverse mapping for the new ips, and that that will clear everything up.

i feel so disconnected when i'm not receiving email. it's amazing how dependent i've become on it. of course it's been a major mode of communication for me for the last six years or so. that's a pretty large chunk of time.

i've been looking into contingency plans in the event that li ever comes to that final crisis that we just can't beat. i'm so used to having my own domains that i'm not really sure i could give that up. unfortunately rates for colocating a server are usually about $350 a month, which is a bit too much to pay for a non-commercial box. and i've got enough different domains and email aliases and such that it would be even less economically feasible to host them virtually on someone else's server. (plus, i do own two nice linux boxes.) i guess for this reason alone i should still be pulling for li's survival. it's kinda sad that it's basically come down to primarily self-centered reasons though.

after sleeping for about 2.5 hours i get a couple pages from daniel telling me that the secure server isn't running, and the sites on it aren't up securely or otherwise. i want to just roll over and go back to sleep, but for some reason i drag myself out of bed, fire up lime and log on to check it out. sure enough, they're not running, but it was an easy fix. dns on the other hand was still thoroughly messed up.

first thing i do after i roll out of bed at about noon (still considerably less than 8 hours of sleep last night), is log on. in fact, i'm still sitting here in my underwear nearly 2 hours later. the internic updates have gone through. reverse dns isn't up yet. but just as i was about to head off to take a shower i was deluged with email from yesterday. so i guess something's working.
