the library closed at noon today for the annual staff picnic. i was pretty sure that there would be nothing i could eat, but student workers were to be paid for the afternoon if they went. so..
and sure enough, there was nothing much for me to eat. some salad. and some fruit. a couple of potato chips. i almost choked on one (it hurt a hell of a lot and my throat hurt for the rest of the day), but that's not the main food related story for today...
cybèle stopped by again this evening with the intention of watching the film that we never got around to renting last night. i had bought stuff to make burritos, but it was much to hot and humid to cook. cybèle suggested that we get middle eastern food. she took a few bites out of the dish she had ordered before realizing that they had put tahini in it. she's deathly allergic to sesame.
she told the restaurant server to call 911 and tried to throw up what she had eaten. i felt like i should be doing something, but didn't know what, and my ears were burning. the brown ems ambulance showed up pretty quickly, and they gave her a shot of epinephrine, after which she was pretty much okay, but we went to the hospital anyway to make sure.
we sat in the emergency waiting area for about an hour and a half, which was not the way that i had been planning on spending my evening, but i don't think that i've ever been in an ambulance before, and cybèle was doing all right at this point, which was the important thing.
the hospital was terribly busy for a tuesday night. there were a few rowdy drunks, one guy who had been in a prison fight, as well as a bunch of other just generally sick people.
eventually cybèle got brought in to see a doctor. and i called dave to ask if he could come and pick us up. which is the thing about taking an ambulance, then you have to figure out how you are going to get home. it was probably a little after midnight when we left the hospital.
and i have to be up and back in the library first thing in the morning.
