so. the first time i've been on an airplane in eight years. made sure to take along my little vial of star glitter, or faerie dust, to help keep the plane in the air. everyone knows you can't fly without faerie dust.
and i was scared to death anyway. every little bit of turbulence. every change in engine sound (the second flight was a little plane, and sam and i were in the seats furthest to the rear, pretty good seats by most accounts, but right by the engine).
occasionally i was able to replace my fear of finding myself in a big tin can thousands of feet in the air, by getting lost in the aesthetics of the ground surface, seeing it simply as a patchwork of shapes and colours and not as the hard, unforgiving earth, waiting to turn a falling plane into a flaming fireball.
but, we got to ohio okay.
ohio seems very bright. as in sunny. as in it hurts to open my eyes. we're not too much further south than connecticut and rhode island though. maybe it has something to do with the wider horizon, a larger dome of sky, more light.
