went to a thrift store in bellefontaine looking for used clothes. i bought a suitably ugly shirt. maybe more suited to chris.k's intended "gay asian cowboy" look. pearly snaps and red flowers. but more importantly, there was a section of books, 10¢ paperbacks, 25¢ hardcovers. there were a number of cheesy sci-fi books that had been expunged from the raymond public library of raymond, ohio. i decided that i had to buy one of these books, and make a movie out of it. a sort of end of summer project. i picked one because of its silly purple cover, called survival project by john e. muller.

later, looking up this muller on the internet, i found out that it was a pseudonym used by a number of authors for badger books, a sci-fi imprint of the 1950s and 60s from england. the actual author of this particular book was one reverend r. lionel fanthorpe, who wrote close to two hundred of these books under dozens of pseudonyms, dictating directly to tape, off the top of his head, no editing.

as far as i can tell, no movies have been made from any of his books though. either sci-fi moviemakers have just been missing out on a great mine of classic material, or the movie rights have not been forthcoming from whoever owns the copyright (either lionel fanthorpe or badger books, one would guess). but that won't stop me from making a movie of this book just for fun.
