spent a few hours in the brown library today doing more research for my chinese history presentation. found some books with great photos of shanghai but they were oversized, which don't circulate from brown. did some reading, made some photocopies, and then stopped by the risd library to follow up on some things before heading home for shopping.
we had called the asian market this morning to make sure they were open. it's run by koreans, who are often devout christians. but they were open. it never occurred to me that the real supermarkets wouldn't be. we drove to eastside market, bread and circus, stop and shop. nothing. "someday i'm going to open a supermarket," said garth. "i don't know what it will be called, but our slogan will be we don't care about christ, and we'll be open on easter and christmas."
thwarted in our attempt to buy food we decided to go out for sushi with christian and sarah.m. cybèle and kate.h stopped by while we were out, but we hadn't thought to leave a note. it was nice, but definitely a little more expensive than eating sushi at home.
