dan and i stayed up late talking computers and math and other stuff. i woke up this morning with a migraine headache. i don't think the two are really correlated in any way.
i called chris once i managed to drag my pounding head from beneath the covers. he was planning on spending the afternoon doing laundry. 'dinner later?' i asked.
i made my way out to home depot (via manhattan where i got a bagel and a cup of coffee, which helped with the headache) to get some more plastic to re-make my ceiling and maybe cover the windows. and to look into getting some carpet. i had stopped by abc carpet on broadway at er!n's suggestion, but even their remnants were more expensive than i can afford.
when i got off the subway there were two voice messages, robin and alex, returning my calls from last night. while i was in home depot my phone rang again, but when i tried to answer it i just got a no service beep.
i bought the plastic. there weren't really any carpets along the lines of what i was looking for, and the area rugs are the wrong shape for my room. i did end up with two boxes of carpet tiles. they didn't have a great selection, but i think they'll work out fine in my room.
once i was back outside my phone beeped to let me know i had a message. it was beatrice, from yesterday, asking me to call back. which i did. 'would you be interested in being our new intern?' she asked.
'yes! that's really exciting,' i said.
'and you are willing to commit to three months, 9.00-5.30?'
'i am.'
'would you like to start on monday?'
'that sounds great.'
'well, i'll see you then. thank you very much.'
'thank you very much.'
so i've got a job. and it seems like it will be a cool one. i'm really excited. i kind of started singing to myself about it after i got the phone call.
took the subway back home. sat around and talked with marie for a while. called robin back, made tentative plans for saturday. called alex, left another voicemail message.
by the time chris and i got around to thinking about dinner it was getting late, and we weren't sure of the hours of anywhere that was new to us, so we ended up at veg-city. as we were sitting down at the booth alex called back. 'i'm actually just about to eat dinner, could i call you in a little bit?'
and after dinner: 'hi, it's bean. i guess you're "it".' chris and i walked around the east village. my phone rings, but the connection's bad. i call back and almost get hit by a car. but we made plans to go out for a soup dinner on tuesday.
chris and i wandered some more, looking for a bar that we'd feel comfortable getting a drink in, and eventually headed back to brooklyn. we got a couple of beers at the life cafe which is about half-way between our respective houses. there was bad karaoke going on.
and then home where marie and i talked music until it was time to go to bed.
