Didn't manage to rack up too many billable hours at work today. The model is winding down until there are actual designed feature to be built into it. I did a little bit of wrapping things up with it, a little bit of research, and then left early when it seemed like no one was terribly willing to loan me a couple of bucks to buy lunch. (To be fair, Caitlin.M did offer, but I was already mad at that point, and was ready to call it a day.)
I've been reading the latest issue of The Wire on the train the last couple of days (Rob had taken the mailbox key with him to California, so I didn't get it until he got back) and it's really sparked my desire to make music again. Plus, Cybèle's been making and talking a lot about music recently. I Think that I find reading about music more of an inspiration to create it than I find listening to it. It's a bit unlike most of my other artistic impulses in that sense. But one of my stronger ones too. And even while I'm mostly more interested in experimental music, of all my possessions that I've been living without, I think I miss my guitar the most.
It was rainy and overcast this afternoon, which is a weather condition that I like in the summer, but which isn't terribly conducive to getting motivated about throwing a dinner party. Not that sushi night is exactly a dinner party, but sort of.
I spent most of my unplanned afternoon off napping on the couch. Eventually started preparing food around 7. Dan had cleaned the bathroom yesterday, and Rob the kitchen this morning, so that really only left the food prep to me. And I really do like cooking when it's not just for me, once I get into it.
Around 8, Chris called to tell me that he was in Astoria, and wouldn't be coming, which did kind of set me back into a bit of a bad mood. But then people started showing up and I swung back around.
Dave.Z made a first appearance, popping in briefly with Edie, before they were off to Manhattan and the Devo afterparty, which they had managed to get on the guestlist for. Elsewise it was mostly Rob's friends, and one less-dorky friend of Dan's from high school who he ran into in the street and brought home with him.
