Spreading knowledge of vegetarian eateries.
5 December 2004
Had brunch at Kate's Joint with Ellen. Hadn't been there in forever. Nor have I had brunch with much of anyone but Chris. We were both enamoured with the new waitress's accent. (From New Zealand maybe?)
Afterwards, it being nice out today, possibly even the last nice Sunday until spring, although in the Northeast you never know, we walked down to SoHo. Popped into a few shops. Then back up, eventually to Union Square. And a movie.
Sideways, which we had both heard nothing but good things about, but were also both somewhat reluctant to see because it just didn't sound like all that interesting a premise. As it turns out, the reviews and word of mouth were not wrong. I enjoyed it quite a bit.
Of course, as wine is largely the thread that ties the movie together, you really can't not go out and drink wine after watching it. And wanting food to go with that wine, I talked Ellen into going to a second vegetarian restaurant today, Candle 79, where I've been wanting to go to for quite some time with someone old enough to split a bottle of wine with.
So an expensive day. But nice to be out and about and doing things and eating good food and all of that.
