I guess people still rent VHS tapes.

Brunch at Life. Then into the office for the afternoon, partly to compensate for how unproductive yesterday was. Home, for dinner and some TV. And back out, to Park Slope, where people were meeting up at Dave.Z's house.
The F was running express in Brooklyn, so I had to take it to 7th Ave, and walk back down to the base of the slope at 3rd. And when I got there and rang the bell, it seemed that no one was home. They had left to feed Edie's cat, which was back up to 7th Ave, and then about an equal distance up to Flatbush.
I met up with them at a bar half way there, but with all the walking I was definitely wearing too many layers, in spite of the fact that it's fall.
A shot of whiskey. Then on to Edie's, which is also Matt.L's, although he doesn't really live there. Snacks and beer on the roof.
I like my roof, I like the woods out back, I like the view down 204th to the Bronx, but there's something special about rooftops with views of the Manhattan skyline that mine just can't compete with. Seeing those iconic shapes all lit up in the not too far off distance. New York City, all laid out before you.
Chris, not feeling well, got in a cab. Julia, Matt, Dave, and I headed back by way of a video store. I didn't really want to get too involved in the choice of what to rent, but had decided that I was going to decided whether or not I headed home based on what it ended up being.
I ended up sticking around, for New York Stories, although it was hardly worth it. It's three medium length films, directed by Martin Scorsese, Francis Ford Coppola, and Woody Allen, which are basically unrelated to one another except for the fact that they all take place in New York in the 1980s. We gave up on Scorsese's segment about 2/3 of the way in, skipped Coppola's entirely, and somewhat disinterestedly watched Allen's. A clever editor might have been able to intercut the three stories into one strange, but likely more engaging film, although I doubt any of the three directors would have signed off on it.
