Best decision.
28 December 2005
To be fair, the bed in my room at the Marriott was better than the bed in any discount motel I've stayed in. But, that didn't stop me from gathering up my stuff this morning and checking out two days early with an aim on moving into the Westin.
There was still a flurry of construction oriented work going on in the museum this morning. All of the graphic elements that were already in the space were covered in plastic. But now there were a few people on site that I actually knew.
I answered a few questions. Was trained to use the lighting control system. And then spent most of the afternoon helping to curate historical artifacts, specifically a case about 'currency as art'. Which meant that I got to spend the day looking at really, and probably quite valuable, money.
Dinner with Chris.W, who had just arrived on site, and Stephanie. There was nothing specifically vegan on the menu, but it was a pretty fancy place and the the chef prepared a nice dish of quinoa and sauteed local organic vegetables.
And I finally checked into my room at the Westin, yes I know the rain all afternoon kept me from walking the eight blocks. But the building is beautiful, and my room is beautiful and tastefully furnished, and I'm up on the 23rd floor and have an amazing panoramic view of downtown and switching my reservation is the best decision I could have made.
