Link-heavy London architecture.
2 March 2006
Room service continental breakfast. Toast, cereal (with soy milk), grapefruit juice, coffee. I don't even want to think about how much it cost, but it was good to get some food in my stomach.
Work today was tours of bank buildings in two of London's southern suburbs, Croydon and Bromley. I'm starting to get a feel for the layout of Greater London, which at first blush seems incredibly complicated.
Then back into town on a commuter rail train. A stop at the hotel to do a little planning. And back out into the city on foot.
I made a goal this afternoon of seeing some of the city's modern architecture. London City Hall and 30 St Mary Axe by Foster and Partners. The Lloyd's building by Richard Rogers Partnership. The Millennium Bridge, by Foster again with sculptor Anthony Caro and Arup. The Tate Modern converted by Herzog & de Meuron.
And for dinner, Mildred's, a very nice vegetarian restaurant in Soho, super highly recommended to any vegetarians or vegans who may be visiting London.
