I have basically no food in my house and so planned on heading out mid-afternoon to find something to eat. As it's Friday, and there's a good chance that I'd be meeting up with people at some point in the evening, I gave Chris a call before I headed out. 'Dave and Abi are spending the day on Governor's Island, but I'll probably meet up with them when they get back and eat at Veggie Dim Sum House in Chinatown. That will mostly likely be around dinner time. I'll give you a call when I hear from them, but you should eat something now.'

'But I've got absolutely no food at home. That's why I was thinking about heading downtown.'

'Nothing at all? Not even a can of beans or anything?'

'I've got a can of pumpkin pie filling. And I think some fettuccine noodles.'

'Well, there's a meal right there.' And, to be honest, I had been toying with the idea of using the pumpkin in some unconventional sort of way for a while now. But, by the time the water was boiling Chris was calling back. 'I just got off the phone with Dave. We're meeting in Chinatown in about an hour.' So no pumpkin sauce on past today.

Meals at Veggie Dim Sum tend to err on the somewhat gluttonous side. But with eight people, even with a second round of orders, it came up a little shy of filling. (A falafel later would split the difference.)

Then north through SoHo. A stop at the Apple Store, which before today I had never set foot in. And Washington Square Park where we sat around as the sun set. Eventually onto Fat Cat Billiards for ping-pong and pool. And finally, the evening's stragglers, Julia, Matt, Liza, Jon.W and myself, ended up at Jon's place for another hour or so.
