so i got a couple of new cds this week and i've really been enjoying ten easy paces by ida. 'specially the secret stars' tune "shoe-in" that they cover. about half the songs were recorded by warren defever (of his name is alive, one of the best bands of all time) and steven immerwahr (of codeine) plays base on one track.

the new sloan album and the new cracker album, navy blues and gentleman's blues respectively, are also both pretty good, although i've only given them a single listen each. it's hard to take ida off of repeat. i am going to have to pick up some secret stars stuff, "shoe-in" is just such a beautiful song, and earlier in the album there's the line: "driving home in yr car / listening to the secret stars / can't believe how great they are".

it's amazing how you miss these groups that are so tied up with all the groups you do listen to, and then when you finally stumble across them there's just this sense of synchronicity. people are that way too. life is that way.

and of course i'm back on this wanting to be a musician kick. write songs. put out records. i don't know about the touring part.

there's something magical about our parking lot at li. i notice it every night when i'm leaving, but then by the time i've gotten home it's faded. i just walked across the street to mail a letter, and i got a flash of it. it's something about the open sky and the concrete and the streetlamps of a town on the periphery of reality.
