this morning i dreamt that i was in an odd gym class being taught by someone who was not actually a gym teacher, but was undercover for some purpose. i was not s'posed to know this. there were people in this class from my class in grade school, nmh, sam's class in grade school (including sam), and a few assorted others. it started out normal enough, with the teacher handing out a number of basketballs, some of which were under-inflated, as gym class basketballs often were. but then we were in an indoor courtyard and the ground was very swampy, with a couple inches to about a foot of water, and we were trudging through it making esoteric connections and obscure references to gangsters or fictional characters or something. on the other side of a walkway there were some people who were up to their necks in water. allison was with them and i tried to intercept her path, but something was forcing us to go our individual ways. we touched foreheads briefly, and then she was gone. then sam and i noticed that the walkways were iced over and at a slight incline so we started sliding around on them as if we were luging. later it was the end of the semester and we were cleaning out the storeroom of the gym and i had to remove the pieces of the old bunk-bed that i head when i was little. there were a few other things that belonged to me, among them a broken umbrella.

george asked the other day if i was going to cook a christmas dinner. i thought about it for a while, and decided last night that i would be kinda neat to make vegetarian sushi. not exactly traditional, but fun to make and eat. so today i went out in search of the ingredients: nori, picked daikon, wasabi powder, cucumber, avocado, pickled ginger, sushi rice, etc. it seems that every store in austin has a little japanese section with all this stuff. except for the sushi rice. all the stuff to make sushi, and no rice. four supermarkets and a natural foods co-op later, i finally found some. and of course there was something that i needed at each stop, and as the day pressed on the crowds got bigger and the lines got longer and the parking spaces got further and further away. what should have been an hour long shopping excursion took closer to five. luckily the roads were not icy, as the weather last night was predicting. but i've got all the stuff i need now (or almost, but i can prolly convince george to pick up the one thing i missed). and when i got back there was an envelope from risd explaining the rest of the steps in my application procedure, and a card from er!n which i put under the "tree" to be opened tomorrow morning.
