i figured the best use of my time this morning would be to practise guitar. i had somehow memorized my monologue for acting via osmosis or some such, i just sorta knew it the other night, without any real time going over it. so i practised guitar. and for the first time ever i sorta started connecting the notes on the page to the place that my fingers were s'posed to be. of course it was a little late in the game, and i wasn't too optimistic about the melodies part of my final.
finished filling out the forms for risd. residential life questionnaire, work study choices, deposits and such. i called the dining services office to ask about vegan food. there is at least one vegan entree for every meal. so that's good. went to put all that with the outgoing mail, but the mailman had come early today. so i kept walking to my car and drove them to the post office. barefoot.
apparently you can go just about anywhere barefoot in texas. supermarkets anyway. but i have a hard time really going anywhere without shoes. 'cause of conditioning i suspect. no shirt, no shoes, no service, and all that. as much as i dislike wearing them. it's too bad my cardboard and duct tape sandals are under the seat of my vw in connecticut.
so i came home and george was bidding on an ethernet card for the mac se/30 he bought yesterday. ended up costing him more than the four bucks i spent on the one for my se.
my dad called and we talked for a bit. he's thinking about coming out this way for the kerrville folk festival. which is a week or two after i'm planning on leaving, unfortunately.
then my guitar final. scales, which weren't technically perfect, but decent for a beginning guitarist. chords, i was apparently one of only two students to get them all correct. fingerpicking, my teacher seemed impressed that i had grown my right fingernails out some for that. and then the dreaded melodies. he had me pick one of the three songs that we were s'posed to know. that was terribly cool, as i only really could play one of the three songs. so it went pretty well. and so with my nearly perfect written quizzes and perfect attendance i got an a in the class.
of course i just found out in the packet of risd stuff that i got the other day that one credit courses aren't transferable for risd credit. but it's something of a personal validation.
and acting. i had my monologue down cold. but, getting up and actually performing it, i blanked about half way through it. i stumbled through the next few lines and got back on track. i'm not sure it even showed, but i was a little upset. i did well enough though, so that i think i'm pretty well set to get an a in acting too. so all things considered it was a decent afternoon.
spent a little time putting some "final" touches on a few paintings. tomorrow morning is my last class of the semester, i have to finish my landscape by the end of it, noon or so. and then i have a little work left for playwriting. and that's it. until the middle of next month anyway.
