so i got up, grabbed breakfast, and headed down to the studio early to get some work done on the new project. i cut my mahogany block down to the appropriate dimensions. did some more sketches.
at the beginning of class we watched four short films by charles and ray eames. pretty cool stuff. then we had crits spaced throughout the day, so i had some more time in the morning to cut up my block. i didn't get anything terribly interesting done, and i was a little afraid to just experiment, 'cause in wood whatever you do is basically permanent.
but after lunch i gave in and just kinda played around with what i could do with the band saw and the scroll saw. and actually with the scroll saw i managed to cut out a really cool, curvy shape. so that's the direction my project is going in now.
after dinner i went to the library to try and get some reading done. but i was nearly falling asleep and had no powers of concentration. so i poked around the contemporary japanese architecture section for a while. and needless to say, found some really cool stuff. the aoyama technical college by makoto sei watanabe being one of the coolest.
last night when i was working, i found out that the library has this machine that will read books to you. i though i should give it a try, since i often have a hard time reading. but there's the kid who uses it pretty regularly, and he was there tonight, so i decided to try to approximate the process with my scanner and voice synthesis software.
it's more steps to do it on my computer, but if successful would have about the same effect. unfortunately the ocr software i have just kinda sucks and doesn't produce fully understandable text. so instead i did laundry.
