we got our second modern architecture papers back today. b+ again. i guess that's just my destiny for that class. i still think having art students grade papers is just a bad idea.
after class we went to go measure the context of the stupid bus shelter. did a lousy job of it too, i might add. i'm sure i won't have any clue what my scribbles mean when i get them back to the studio.
picked up a new batch of plaster afterwards. went for the full hundred pounds. convinced adam to drive it between the metcalf store and the beb. but i still had to lug it up to the third floor.
i got to lunch about 230. figured that no one else would be eating at that time, but after a while jen came in. and then dave and this other guy in furniture who's name i should know, but don't. and then back to the studio.
i ended up deciding not to try and cast the whole thing as a giant block again, but instead to mix the plaster in smaller batches. and since i had destroyed my form-work, i figured i'd give it a go of applying it by hand. this is an awfully tough thing to do. but i ended getting pretty good at it. and it created a wonderful surface on my object.
i did some excavating in the top in order to let some light, and probably more importantly, water, in. and there was a hole in the side that i left open. after i had a fairly satisfactory construction, i decided to try and draw a section. then got my sketches together and headed to kinko's with jessica to photocopy them.
as always there were kinko's problems. i was trying to make colour blowups of some of my photos, and the machine kept setting itself back to 100% and then making the copy. i ended up talking my way out of paying for them, but it was still a hassle.
when i came back to the studio my bag of plaster (probably still with sixty or seventy pounds in it) was missing. i followed the trail, and it seems that someone actually left the building with it. i'm assuming that it wasn't malicious, but what if i had really needed that plaster to finish my project for the next morning? and it's quite a bit of money, too. i do have a couple of possible leads.
left the studio just after two again. sleep is always important before a crit or exam.
