today, i did get to see some of the street luge competition. from in front of, and then up on the balcony of, the met. they came by really fast, and not much interesting (passing or crashing) happened along that stretch, but it still looked like fun. and it seems that there's probably a small enough field of competitors that if yr even only reasonably good at it you could win some competitions. (visions of weekend street luging to pay for college.)
forgot to mention yesterday, my compulsion to spend money (on music of course) after i found out the downhill skateboarding was over. i was somewhat thwarted in that i couldn't find much of what i was looking for in the local record stores. i did end up buying a split 7" with a purple ivy shadows song, and another providence band that i'm not familiar with. the never mind the mollusks double split 7" of canadian bands on sub pop, that i've actually owned on cd for years, but figured i should pick up for jale/eric's trip completeness sake. and, neil young's newest cd.
came home and almost bought another $50 of music online, but held myself back. i did go back and pick up tara jane o'neil's solo album peregrine today. it's ida related, and i'm still waiting for my copy of their new cd to arrive, so i couldn't resist.
chris.k came back from nyc this evening. i got to see his new tattoo which he had done friday. the word "pants" in the middle of the left side of his back. it looks neat, but i'm curious how he'll feel about it down the road. (part of why he got it on his back, of course.)
over the weeks that he's been talking about getting it, i started thinking about what i might tattoo on myself, if anything. probably a star, or the word "stars", or something along those lines. but, seeing his actually done, it's so black and permanent. i don't know.
[oh, and that pic of the full moon, is true colour, as it was rising. no editing but for contrast's sake.]
