Brunch in the city with Rob and Marie and her friend Olivia. I was not going to hold my breath for Chris to wake up this morning/afternoon.

I talked to George on the phone as we walked from the West 4th Street subway stop to Avenue B. He had been offered a ride into the city yesterday afternoon, but then found out he had to meet with a client today. So, obviously, didn't come down. Maybe next weekend. He does sound better since gardening season started. And it's only been a week.

After brunch we picked up some painting supplies, then headed home to finally tackle our big wall. We had talked about doing squares, or maybe stripes, using the various colours that we all picked up for use in our own rooms. I had been trying to come up with something a little funkier, maybe a geometric pattern that wouldn't be too hard to tape out. And without any sort of insisting on my part Marie suggested that I be put in charge of figuring out a design. I started doing some sketches, and in my head saw these wave-like horizontal bands.

I did a few quick sketches by hand, and then one in Photoshop to test the colour combinations. Our individual room paints are brown (Marie), blue (Rob), pink (Dan, chosen somewhat at random by the other members of the household), and orange and green (me, of course I had to choose two colours, there was no way I could have settled for only one). An odd combination to be sure, and much more varied (in hue, and not enough so in saturation) than any palette I would actually set out to use. But after a full afternoon and evening of painting it is close to being finished and I have to say it really rocks.
