I don't know about this veracity of this, I've found a few references to it in various blogs, but nothing that seems particularly authoritative: Because of one of the wobbles in the Earth's rotation (there are a few), today's solstice may very well be the shortest day (in the northern hemisphere) for the next twelve thousand or so years. It only gets brighter from here on out.
And, in that vein, I did actually get to work on a colourful broadcast graphic today, for the Today Show's inaugural coverage.
Garth was in town today, passing through on his way from Chicago to his parent's house in Connecticut for the holidays. Chris and I made plans to meet Garth and his girlfriend for dinner. When I got there Dave.Z and Julia.R were there as well. It was a whole little mini college reunion.
The lot of them wanted to head out to Williamsburg afterwards, to the Barcade, a bar with all sorts of '80s arcade machines, renovated, but still a quarter a play. But there was no way that I could go out to Brooklyn, spend any real time there, take the train back home, and get to bed at any sort of even semi-reasonable hour, and I had to be at work in the morning, so I didn't go.
When I got home my internet connection wasn't working. Thought I wouldn't have to say that for a while.
