Global warming.
1 January 2005
The first day of 2k5 was beautiful and warm. More akin to late March than the first of January. It was a sweater without a jacket day.
I had brunch with Ellen. Not being able to get ahold of Chris I figured that he was probably hung over from his New Year's Eve festivities (a proposition that later proved correct).
Walking down First Ave Ellen asked, 'So we're going to the Organic Grill?'
'I figured we could look in, and if it's busy, it is a little place, we could continue walking down to Kate's.'
It turned out that the Organic Grill wasn't even open. Passing Counter we noticed that their sign listed brunch as one of their offerings. I remember looking in once with Chris when Veg-City first closed, as a possible brunch alternative, but feel as if they weren't serving brunch that day or something, and it never again entered into my consciousness. Ellen and I went in.
As it happens, they're completely vegan, a little pricey, but good. Another East Village vegan option.
After brunch we walked around for a bit since it was so nice out. Then talked about seeing a movie. I called Chris again, 'I'm going to be in a movie theatre soon, but if you're not too hungover, we should get dinner later.'
He called back a few hours later. 'How was your movie?'
'Actually, we didn't make it to one this afternoon. We're going to a later show and just ordered takeout. You missed your shot at dinner by about twenty minutes.'
'Well, I'm not working this week, so maybe some weeknight.'
Dinner was from Zenith, a veggie Asian place in midtown, basically a priced-down version of Zen Pallet, and not any better.
The movie, continuing the recent Shakespeare theme, was the new Merchant of Venice, and was worse than dinner.
