About two months ago, I received tickets to see Cirque du Soleil's Delirium, through work, a bonus of sorts. At the time, I figured that within two months I could probably find a date. And things were actually looking pretty promising on that front soon afterwards. But then they got all complicated, and pear-shaped (as the Brits are fond of saying), and as the day approached it became clear that a date wasn't really in the cards.

Chris has suggested that even if I didn't take an actual date, I make it look like I'm on a hot date. 'You've got lots of hot friends who are girls,' he told me. Which is true. But I wasn't necessarily sold on the idea.

I ended up calling Sam, and seeing what he was up to. I figured that given his recently rediscovered love of unicycling and his current job building sets, it would be something that he would be into. He told me that he had just the other day watched a Cirque du Soleil marathon on TV and had been thinking about seeing them in person.

He came down on the train this afternoon. We drank a couple of beers and caught up and then headed down to Madison Square Garden. I'm actually pretty glad that I didn't end up going with a date. MSG is big and concrete and impersonal. And the show was certainly interesting (and the more circus-like acrobatics were super-impressive), but a lot of it was also pretty cheesy in a Broadway-style musical meets generic "world music" sort of way.

Then dinner at Life because they are open late. A few more drinks. And home.
