News today that Dennis Kucinich, the only presidential candidate that I've ever felt comfortable with the possibility of voting for, is withdrawing from the race. I understand his reasons, he has been effectively silenced by the corporate media that force feeds the general public the opinions that they're supposed to hold, and he is facing tough competition for his congressional seat, which if he were to lose, we would all, as a country, suffer for it, his voice in national politics being unique and important. But that doesn't make the decision any less disheartening. I donated money to his presidential campaign. I registered as a member of the Democratic Party, which is something I am most certainly not, and was loath do to, so that I could vote for him in the primary. I have tickets to see him speak next week, an engagement which he may or may not now even be keeping, but either way is moot for the swaying of local minds.

And now? I am once again without a candidate to speak for me. Of the remaining field, only Mike Gravel even comes close to sharing my views, and he has already been marginalised even further than Dennis was. Plus, he's not (yet) even on the ballot in New York. The idea of representative democracy remains nothing but a big, mean-spirited joke. It's looking more and more as if getting the fuck out of this country is not such a bad idea.
