Today was sort of the day that wasn't. Nothing exactly new for a Sunday. Or for the first day of the return to standard time. But more so because of how event-filled the last two days were.
Friday, at the Contemporary Artists' Books Conference, part of the NY Art Book Fair held this year at PS1, I attended a panel session entitled "Typography and Writing" which turned out to be pretty inspiring.
A late lunch/early dinner at VP2.
Then, another panel discussion, this time at Pratt Manhattan, about "Non-traditional Careers for Information Professionals" featuring three semi-recent Pratt grads. And of course, if the traditional career for an information professional involves the title Librarian, I'm likely headed the non-traditional route myself. Mostly though I was distracted by one of those momentary crushes on one of the panelists.
I had my iPad with me, so I had to head home before the next stop. And even took a detour from the detour for a beer at Macri Park.
Home. Back out.
The Dandy Warhols at the Bell House. Once again, with tickets on sale months in advance, I bought two, figuring that by the time the show rolled around I could find someone interested in going. And, once again, 'twas not the way things turned out. But, it was a great show. Great, great.
Throughout all this, my phone battery died, and I left it at home before the concert. I felt a bit naked going out without it, even though it's pretty much always on silent anyway. Not having it did keep me from Twittering any cliche or inappropriate things.
Saturday, back to PS1 for another panel session in the morning, "Experimental Libraries and Reading Rooms". Again, some inspiration. I'll definitely have to visit the Reanimation Library at some point.
I spent a few hours perusing the art book fair, attempting to restrain myself from buying lots of pretty things.
Brunch at Sacred Chow, which was fantastic. It's probably been a good three years, perhaps longer, since I had brunch there. Surpassed any fuzzy memories I might have had.
The Strand, again trying not to buy more books, then Monsters at the Landmark Sunshine. Another brilliant example of how you don't need hundreds of people to make a film. Not everyone's cup of tea, I'm sure, but I certainly enjoyed it.
Dinner at Pukk, it's like a tour of all the vegan restaurants I never go to anymore.
Bought a ticket for the 10 pm showing of The Social Network, an hour an a half away, so I went back to the Strand. Books and movies and vegan food.
I enjoyed The Social Network as well. Not a huge surprise there, as I've loved pretty much everything Aaron Sorkin's written, and when David Fincher is on, he's on.
And Project Parlor for a drink on the way home.
Today.
Couldn't get into my new studio yet. Spent some time in the library. But basically, meh.
