Felt more like Sunday.
24 February 2011
Dreams of migraines (idea planted by a friend's tweets yesterday). Dreams of ex-girlfriends (idea planted by on overheard conversation at the bar last night). And nightmarish dreams of escaped, or perhaps stolen, mummified evil souls (idea, as best as I can figure, generated somewhere within my own brain).
Slept later than anticipated, but in the cold-recuperation process it was probably a net gain. Spent most of the day in my studio hovering somewhere short of productive. Stayed late, hammering out as much as I could muster.
With a later dinner watched Peter Greenaway's Drowning By Numbers. His work, though generally weird and often baroque, is all about systems. I find weird hard to avoid, aspire to baroque, and definitely work best within systems myself. My goal for Thesis Research this semester,1 aside from having my proposal approved by the thesis committee, is to define the system within which I'll have the structure to generate my thesis project.2
1. Essentially the ultimate goal of the first two thirds of my time at Pratt.
2. Completion of which (from the perspective of viewing grad school as an opportunity to learn and create) being, definitionally, the ultimate goal of an MFA in general.
