well, the first half of my equinox was not too wonderful. after my two morning classes i walked across town to get the right kind of double-sided tape for the vinyl pad for my drafting board. every day for a week or so i've grabbed a jacket or flannel shirt on the way out the door, and every day it's been unpleasantly hot by noon. so today i was just in a short sleeve shirt.

of course today it's colder by noon than it was at 730 in the morning. and drizzling on and off. so i decided to take the bus back, and as an extra bonus i could ride it an extra stop up the hill so that i could pick up my course packet for modern architecture at the copy place on thayer.

of course i stand around waiting in the drizzle at the bus stop. and when the bus does come and i get on it, it's not the one that goes up the hill. so i get off downtown at the terminus where all the lines meet, and wait some more for the correct bus.

i was still in pretty good spirits by this point, other than the standing in the cold bit, and the bus ride through the tunnel made that kinda go away.

so i get to the copy place, and stand in line, and get to the front and tell them that i ordered my course packet online. (yr s'posed to pay for it 24 to 72 hours in advance, whether online or in person, and i figured online would save me a trip. i had heard that they had some extra copies on hand and that people weren't actually having to make a second trip, but it's not like paying for it online took me anywhere out of my way.)

the cashier says "let me check my list." she does, and i'm not on it. she says "can you come back later this afternoon." i kinda lost it. i ordered my packet three days ago. i've already paid for it. people who haven't bothered to take these steps can just walk in and get one. but i have to come back. and i can't come back. until saturday at the earliest. and i don't know if they're open saturday.

so now i was in a bad mood. and it kinda ruined my lunch.

i spent a while attempting to attach the vinyl pad and then parallel rule to my "portable" drafting table, and then lugged the whole thing all the way down to the beb. i have a feeling that my arms are going to be terribly sore tomorrow.

then i went to work on my clay. this was very therapeutic. i had had an inspiration last night about cutting lots of little cubes as in-fill so that the void-space within the block would itself be cubic (although irregular on the bottom). so i went to work cutting smaller and smaller cubes.

i reached a conclusion about the nature of my project, that's it's all based on five magnitudes of cubes. and it looks neat too.

by about 630 i had finished cutting all the little cubes and brought a pile of them back with me to lay on my scanner as a step in creating the drawing of the "important planes of the void" or somesuch mumbo-jumbo.

i ate some dinner, then scanned my cubes and played with them in photoshop some. took the file to the computer lab to print it. and then gathered up my drawing supplies to take down to the studio and finish the drawing.

this was about nine, and the latest i've been in the studio so far. i was finished by eleven, although plenty of people were still working on their clay.

so the second half of the equinox wasn't too bad. happy fall erveryone. and best of all, i'll even be in bed before midnight.
