so first off, yesterday: i got up at the usual time (i was going to say early, but it's not early anymore, since i'm at the studio at eight every weekday morning whether i have class at eight that morning or not) to go down to the beb and work on my design principles project for an hour and a half before class since i had spent all of wednesday afternoon working on my model for drawing.
i did a little work, and then ended up taking like an hour long nap under my desk. it's always good to start the day with a nap. then we had a whole studio lecture. two of the professors talked about stuff, kyna showed slides of a class that she taught a few semesters ago that was an advanced studio dealing with drapery and turning it into a large scale, rigid structure (kinda where our current project came from). it looked like a really cool class.
she also showed some slides of a project that she did, for a limited edition turned bowl. her work is really cool too. she was the professor who won the contest in the japan architect magazine that i talked about before. and that was neat.
then i worked on my project for the rest of class. although i felt as if i was beginning to lose momentum towards the middle of the afternoon. i had a desk crit around 630 though, and think i have some good directions for the project.
after dinner i returned to the studio to work on my drawing model. what was i thinking choosing a shape that was not only 3d, but had a curve? and i couldn't get it to to come out as a "b". just "d" or "p". and so i decided to just use what i had and finish the thing.
i worked in the studio until two, and then went and worked with nick and sarah in the dexter house lounge. i left at five, figuring a couple hours of sleep was better than none. that's where yesterday's brief entry was written.
then my two hours of sleep.
and then the concrete casting this morning. although there wasn't enough materials for everyone to be working at once, so i went and worked on finishing my model and checked in from time to time. shawn didn't have class this afternoon, so he stuck around at the site.
i went out around lunchtime to find the form filled and split at one of the corners. we strapped it, and then shawn went off to get big clamps. i think it will work out though.
and then drawing class. after the lecture bit we all put our models out for everyone else to see. mine was one of only four 3d models. and i think it might have been the only one with a curve.
chick picked out certain models and talked about what was good or bad about them. i kinda was hoping he'd pick up mine and say something like "it's very ambitious. and a correct solution. but there's these globs of glue; the craftsmanship could use some work." he didn't though.
he did look and grade it in class though, and seemed impressed with what i took on. and particularly impressed when he realized that the final rotation yielded a true isometric projection. and that was good. i think that showing off was always a factor of picking an incredibly hard shape. and just the challenge of it, of course.
at dinner jen came in all upset. and partly due to my empathic nature, and partly due to the fact that what she was upset about was boys, it started bringing me down a little bit. but not so terribly much.
after dinner i walked back over to dunnel with jen. and i talked with molly for a bit, about architecture, among other things. and then she was headed down to the studio, so i went back and hung out with jen some.
she was going on a sorta date tonight, and so we talked about relationships, and the whole girl-boy thing. i was going into some whole long story (maybe about that whole happily ever after thing, i'm not sure where it was headed) but she had to leave in the middle of it.
so i came back to my room (about 930 at this point), laid down, and just was just out. that's good though. sleep is definitely a useful thing.
