last semester's grades came out today. i didn't get mine. the business office hasn't gotten the check that i sent them through inter-campus mail and so has put a hold on important things, like my grades. and i wouldn't have even figured this out if i hadn't run into nick outside the mailroom, who told me that a friend of his didn't get her grades because she still owed part of last semester's tuition. eek, it's umass all over again. except i did send the check. although the woman in charge of payments in the business office has a desk like mine, covered with piles of mail and checks and other papers, stuff falling on the floor.

hopefully we'll get this sorted out this week.

got to sit in the cold for an hour this morning for performance. in setting up the next assignment, we had this exercise that was kinda like a scavenger hunt/journey to find and accumulate all the members of the class. i was last because i was preparing up for "i'm taller than you are" when the order was set.

i was in an alley between the brown art center (a huge concrete building) and another fairly large building (marble on one side of the alley, brick on the other). after twenty minutes or so the sun started peering into the alley. and because of the angles and everything, you could actually watch it move, like in time lapse, across the alley, then up the other wall and away. so i was sitting in the sun for a while, edging closer and closer to the wall in the narrowing band of light (and warmth). and had to get up and move down the alley just as the class came around the corner.

they missed my impromptu "encroaching darkness" performance by literally thirty seconds. and the shade, the darkness, really did have a presence. it was radiating cold. and squeezing me further and further against the wall.

on my way to lunch after class i passed jen in the street. big smile and silent wave. it was sweet.
