i had the strongest desire to just stay in bed this morning. much more so than usual. but, i fought it, got up, and was at the studio by about 830. luke borrowed a pickup from a friend of his who goes to brown and we started moving our materials up to woods gerry. (last night at about nine we found out that we would be building the cabin on the woods gerry terrace, which is good ten to fifteen minute walk from the beb, and we had to get everything there ourselves.)
we were the only group with it enough to get a jump start on things. about 930 the word comes down that no, we're not building it at woods gerry, but in the beb gallery, even though it won't fit and will have to be built in pieces. even though the pieces won't really all stand on their own. which also means we have to move everything back. most of it on foot.
we were still the first group to get a wall up. (i should mention that the floor group was in pretty good shape; we couldn't have put up our walls without them.) and when i left at about six, we had both walls up, the sliding door, part of the other door, and most of the paneling. we were definitely in good shape. which goes to show a little something about the relative merits of custom building vs modularity and pre-fabrication: if yr only building one of something, a pre-fab modular system just doesn't pay off.
went to see the magic flute for my opera class tonight. i was a little leery about the fact that it was being performed in english translation. it's a bit on the strange side as it is, it's written in german but the characters all have italian names. and they sing about egyptian gods. so translation might be okay, or it might be too much. and i have something against operas in english to being with. when i get around to writing my operas, i think that i'll have to write the lyrics in either an asian language, chinese or japanese, or in a completely made up language (which is of course another interest of mine).
but it was actually really quite good. the production design was cute. the costumes for the most part were very good. i want a suit like sarastro's, but i think you might need a kinda large belly to pull it off. there was a small orchestra on stage (blocking my view at times, i got a seat on the very end of the front row). the set was a little simplistic, but i guess it's a traveling production, and they can't get too intricate. and they were british, so even though they were singing in english, it was with a cool british accent.
definitely worth the $5 rush ticket price. i'd recommend seeing the london city opera if they come yr way.
came back and went right over to sarah's to work on our islamic architecture report. we worked until about 130. i came home to type it up, and decided to "rest my eyes" for a while. yep.
