magicbeans. nothing if not awkward.

tonight was what i've been affectionately referring to as the street-money dinner night. and doubling as garth's birthday dinner. seven of us ended up going out for indian food. i had thought that it was going to be more intimate than that, but i guess it wasn't really my call. the dinner was good though, once we moved tables and i no longer had to sit at the wobbly table that was half on and half off a thick rug.

afterwards garth and i headed out to the hive archive for susie's return to providence, end of the tour show. separately we had both walked past her house after work and stopped in for a bit to chat. she told me that she was going to introduce one of her songs as "fuck you beanbag amerika" (because i'm going to rome next year). ben (aka night sound seminar), susie's touring partner, said that the show was starting at nine.

we got there about nine-thirty and were more or less the first people through the door. the show wasn't actually scheduled to start until ten. i took a lomograph of a cat named cookie. about then-thirty music began to be played.

garth and i both thought that susie was good, but she was very supercritical about the night, calling it her worst show, and just generally seeming upset about it. part of the problem was the crowd, there was a dance party scheduled to be held after the live music and it seemed that a lot of people where only there for that. and part of it was just tour fatigue, i'm sure. and playing with jenine again, who left the tour half way through. and that she had been drinking hard cider all night (before the tour she always said that she didn't drink). but we tried to reassure her that it was good, we enjoyed it.

stopped by stef's when we got back, she was supposed to come over after work (around eleven) and it was now twelve-thirty. but no one home. garth dropped me off, and i called over there again, and then 438 where she had been waiting for a while. she and chris.k were just about to leave and head over to the hive archive to find us when garth got back.
