dreamt about water. makes sense since the city is built on it. and about a pizza place that either closed at eleven or midnight. don't know where that came from.
the peril of having new pants after months of only wearing one pair is that you stop remembering to transfer things from the pockets of one to the other. i left all my money (and identification) in my old pants at the hotel. and was terribly nervous about asking to borrow money (even just for the day) from anyone. but i did, and people were very helpful.
i spent the whole day at the biennale. it was definitely the high point of my northern tour, if not my whole month in italy so far. highlights for me included: keith tyson's work--a room full of poster-sized sketchbook/diary pages of ideas for projects, internal musings, scientific explorations; richard serra's torqued ellipses; ron mueck's giant boy. the downside was the shear number of video pieces, probably a third of the exhibition, that require too much attention and become tedious.
i haven't really processed it all, so it's hard to say more, but there were definitely some inspiring things. stuff that i'm sure will influence the direction of my work in rome in some way.
plus email from stef on my phone. yay.
