at 1.49 am, presumably although i didn't notice, the alarm on my phone went off. spring.

at the exact moment that spring started two years ago i sent a text message (from rome) to stef (in providence). she responded with: 'Sometimes I forget how magical and dreamy you can make me feel. Happy Spring too. Yr girl-s' of course two weeks later we were broken up again.

i have no record or memory of what happened last year on this equinox. but she and i were probably together, at least within a few hours of the exact moment. and happy.

this year the moment passed with anticipation but little fanfare. close to three we look up at a clock. 'where did the last two hours go?' i ask chris.

'that's what happens when you're drinking beer,' he says.

sarah.p was in town today, with her new boyfriend christian. i met them and chris at kate's joint for brunch. kate's is good, but i miss veg-city.

the four of us wandered around the village and soho. i bought a new pair of jeans (finally). it started raining. we found what chris had thought was a cafe, but turned out to be more of a restaurant. which was okay, as it was dinner time by this point. and the place was cute, but neither the service nor the food was anything special.

i had met christian on the day that chris was building dave.z's loft bed. i got a bit of a weird vibe from him then. but he was really nice today. it was nice to have some in depth conversations, interspersed with artsy silliness.

without a good place to spend the night, sarah.p and christian left the city relatively early. chris and i walked to barnes and noble to use their bathroom, and then hung out for a bit while he made phone calls and i watched cute girls.

and then home and the rest of saturday night in.
