Eleven years ago today, which is to say Ground Hog Day 1996, Lakeville Internet announced (with a cute little ground hog graphic) that we would begin immediately offering unlimited dial-up internet access to all of our subscribers at no additional cost. This sounded generous, but the truth of the matter was that in the half year we had been in business, only one or two of our customers had ever gone over their allotted 60 monthly hours, and even then only slightly, and we didn't really have any simple way to track and bill them for the overage anyway.

Today's declaration is both more subtle and personal, but similarly is simply a matter of the way things are, whether announced or not.
